Description
Audi’s iconic mid-engine R8 sports car. The automaker says the new R8 shares around 50 per cent of its parts with the R8 LMS GT3 race car. The exterior restyling is subtle; the grille is wider and lower with larger air inlets and a wider splitter. Above the grille is a set of slits the automaker says are a throwback to the Ur-quattro, the legendary rally car. At the rear, there’s an extended diffuser. The R8 is still powered by a V10, but there are now two choices — the 532-horsepower V10 or the 602-hp V10+. The dry-sump pump module can withstand 1.5 lateral g of acceleration, and the oiling system has its own separate radiator to keep things cool. With built-in launch control, the seven-speed S Tronic gearbox with manual control and paddle shifters offers an extra level of involvement.
